Premium Overdraft Protection

Premium Overdraft is a service that adds a measure of protection to your personal checking account in the event your account is overdrawn.

  • How Does It Work?
    If your account is overdrawn due to a check or ACH withdrawal, FAIRWINDS will allow that item to clear. A service charge per item, plus the amount of the withdrawal item will be charged to your account, bringing your account negative.

  • How much protection do I have and when does it become effective?
    • Simply Smarter, Interest Checking and Legacy Checking – protection of $750 effective 30 days after the account opening date.

    • Free Checking – protection of $500 effective six months after the account opening date.

  • Am I eligible?
    In order to access Premium Overdraft, your account must be open for at least 30 days for Simply Smarter, Interest Checking and legacy accounts and open for at least six months for Free Checking. Your account must be maintained in “good standing” to qualify and maintain the service. This is defined as:

    • You maintain a positive balance in your account for at least 30 consecutive days;
    • You do not have any loans with the credit union that are more than seven days past due;
    • A non-sufficient funds (NSF) transaction has not occurred on your account in the past 30 days;
    • You maintain minimum monthly deposits into your account of at least $500.00 for Free Checking accounts and $750.00 for all other consumer checking accounts including Simply Smarter and Interest Checking.

  • Do I have to apply?
    Premium Overdraft requires no applications or additional signatures. If you do not want to utilize the Premium Overdraft service, please contact Member Services to be removed from the program. You will continue to have access to existing overdraft protection options on your account. If there are insufficient funds in your account to cover an item(s), the credit union will return the item(s) unpaid and charge your account a non-sufficient funds (NSF) fee. FAIRWINDS reserves the right not to pay an item at our discretion.
