Is a program that is used to monitor or track the computer user or takes over operations of a computer for the benefit of a third party.
Spyware can cause a plethora of problems on your computer.
- Takes longer to boot.
- Adds pop-ups and advertisements (adware).
- Captures personal data by recording what you type.
- Reports your activity and emails to a third party. Sometimes the perpetrator might even be someone you know.
The best defense is to purchase software. Many companies like Norton and McAfee offer internet security packages that include it along with other virus protection tools. There is a free tool, Spybot, that is very popular. It is available for download from the internet (see below).
