Stay Ahead of Identity Theft and Fraud

With the turbulence in today's economy, identity theft and consumer fraud continue to soar. Desperate times can cause desperate actions, leaving innocent consumers the overwhelming task of re-building their finances and credit. ID theft and fraud can hit anywhere from credit and debit card transactions to online banking.

What can you do to avoid becoming a victim and keep your credit intact? Mary Radley, FAIRWINDS Senior Vice President of Risk Management, offers you valuable information and tips below.

  • Monitor your credit report on a regular basis. Checking your credit report can help you identify if new accounts have been fraudulently opened in your name.

  • Keep an eye on your daily account balances. Daily verification of your account transactions, no matter how small the amount, can protect you from the potential of a huge loss.

  • Sign up for electronic statements. e-Statements are a safe alternative to divert thieves from stealing mail right from your own mail box.

  • Never, under any circumstances, give out your PIN (personal identification number) for debit cards, credit cards, and online accounts to anyone.

  • Watch out for online job scams. With many consumers looking for work, thieves are now posting job listings online under fraudulent circumstances. Any prospective employer asking you to provide your account information through the online application can be considered a red flag.

FAIRWINDS works diligently to protect both you and your finances. We are constantly monitoring our members' accounts for fraudulent activity and our online banking platforms are safe and secure. We also offer complimentary seminars to help educate consumers to stay ahead of fraud and theft.

Green Benefits of Using Your Signature!

Did you know that using your signature to pay for debit card purchases can help plant trees in Central Florida?

With the FAIRWINDS Go Green debit card, every time you sign for a purchase a contribution is made to the Central Florida Tree Fund to help plant trees throughout the Central Florida community.

Thanks to Go Green debit card holders, FAIRWINDS crewmembers were able to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2009 by helping to plant trees in a Seminole County neighborhood.

Sign up for your Go Green debit card today and help make a difference in the environment one signature at a time!
