| How to Save During Turbulent Times |

Trying to put together a savings strategy in the midst of a shaky economy can be an overwhelming and daunting task. But there are small things you can do now that will make a big difference in your financial future.
Listed below are tips to help you start off on a successful savings path:
- Have your savings automatically deducted from your paycheck before it even hits your checking account. Have your fixed bills deducted as well, either through automated debit or FAIRWINDS Online Bill Payer, so you're not tempted to touch the money. You'll also avoid late or missed payment penalties.
- Try to pay off your debt and keep paying yourself. Once you've paid off those debts, shift the payments to your emergency fund. Because you're already used to living without the money, you can use the "extra" funds to build up a growing savings account.
- Wait 24 hours before making an impulse purchase.
- Leave your credit card at home and only use your debit card or cash for purchases.
- Treat your savings account as an emergency fund. Don't use it except for emergencies when you have no other alternatives.
